Mode Of Action :
It is believed that the lipid regulating effect by two ways :
1) gum-gugul results from its thyroid stimulating action. Serum lipid levels are known to be reduced by increased levels of circulating thyroid hormones, and (z)-Guggulusterone, ketoteroid, a component of gum-gugul, is such an agent. This thyroid stimulating property also explains the traditional use of gum-gugul for thyroid related condition.
2) Guggulu has been shown to lower serum cholesterol and triglycerides, lower LDL and raise HDL levels.
